Two Wolves

Tonight it was announced that we are entering another national Lockdown due to coronavirus.

I and millions of people are all feeling the same way, anxious, confused, angry, sad, frustrated, worried and the list goes on.

Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do about the virus other than being safe and following government guidelines/rules.

The virus and the measures that go with it are completely out of our control. I think it's a good idea not to put too much energy into something we can't change, instead focus on other areas of life.

What we can do is change how we think, feel and behave.

I have many cognitive and hypnotic techniques to help people reprogram their thoughts and emotions. Many of these techniques I share and use with clients during one on one sessions (over zoom at the moment).

In this article, I'm not going to share a technique. Instead, I will share a story. This short story has helped me through some tough times in my life. It’s an honour for me to now share it with you.

An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life.

“A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy.

“It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.”

He continued, “The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you – and inside every other person, too.”

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?”

The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”

Which Wolf are you feeding today?
